Check out the new ShieldChat Mobile app (we call it the Aegis Mobile app here) - it’s built from the same code as the ShieldChat Desktop suite, so you get a seamless experience whether you’re on mobile or desktop.

One app, one secure line bringing the ShieldChat community together on all your devices!

You can now grab the ShieldChat Mobile app through open testing on the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and Aurora Store, so feel free to download and give it a spin.

If you’re using the Java-based ShieldChat Legacy Mobile app (we refer to it as Aegis Legacy), you can install the new unified Aegis Mobile app right alongside it and easily move your existing encryption keys over (check out the "Migrating Data from Aegis Legacy to Aegis" section below for details).

"The future of privacy is in your hands. Communicate secretly with confidence and unlock your security potential."

What’s Next for the Mobile App?

The Aegis Mobile app kicked off as a version of the Aegis Desktop code, tailored for smaller screens, and it’s on its way to becoming a fully mobile-friendly experience. This update already packs in a bunch of features from ShieldChat Desktop, like:

  • Managing your keys (for advanced users)

  • Language support (Settings → Language & Input) - currently, we’ve got English, German, and Arabic, with more languages on the way.

  • Burn timers in Chat (just hit the "🔥" next to the chat input → Set Timer) - easily set up and send disappearing messages right in the chat.

  • Theme store (tap the Paint icon - the last one on the left in the settings) - grab some awesome dark themes, including free packs.

  • Anonymous ID (AID) usernames - link your existing AID name to your Aegis profile or snag a new one.

  • Onion links and Site previews check out previews for secure links and sites.

  • Text size management (Settings → Appearance → Text Size) - adjust the text size to your liking throughout the app.

  • Keep track of sent, pending, and rejected handshake requests (Settings Keys → Pending/Rejected requests) - view your pending key exchanges.

  • Mark sessions as verified.

  • Search through your contact hashes.

  • Search within a secure note.

  • Check out the app on the Google Play Store: [Link Placeholder]

  • For Apple users: It’s in the App Store Review we’ll share the link once it’s ready.

  • Aurora Store: Our dev team is working on it, and we’ll drop the link when it’s live.

Just a heads up: the team is rolling out updates pretty fast, so you might notice some hiccups while it’s still in open testing. We’re aiming to launch the production version with the next Desktop and Mobile updates, which should be in about two to three weeks!
